    Tires...

Well the time has come, as my current Nitto Neo Gens (meh) are getting ready to kick the bucket, to look for some new tires. After searching on here and E30Tech and reading some reviews on Tire Rack/Discount Tire, I have narrowed it down to three options.

Before I reveal the candidates, let me briefly describe the kind of driving that will be done within the next 10-15k miles. The car will see mostly (80+%) average daily driving (with some spirited driving here and there,) I'm going to try to get out on the track this summer/fall for some driver's education/DE events as well. Tire noise isn't a huge concern for me, as it will likely be drowned out by the monotone exhaust note. All I ask for is a fair amount of grip, above average treadwear, and they MUST be good in inclement weather conditions (light/heavy rain, etc.) There isn't anything special done to the car, it's a four door E30 with stock weight and virtually stock power, running on 15" x 7" wheels.

    The tires in question are:
    BF Goodrich G-Force Sport
    Hankook Ventus R-S2
    Yokohama S.Drive

Like I said, I have done ample reading on all above models, but most reviews are coming from Infiniti G37 or Audi A4 owners who either autocross consistently or are overly concerned with tire noise; so I come here to get some opinions from people with similar cars. I ask for opinions from people who own (or have owned) any of the above tires, I'm not looking for any tires outside of the ones I have mentioned, so only recommend tires that fit the aforementioned criterion.

    Thanks in advance.

I vote the Hankooks. The treadwear has been excellent in the last 10K miles and during the track day I logged in, the performed excellent. They did not overheat and get greasy (like the Falken RT-615s I previously ran) and during the last session it started pouring rain, yet I still felt very comfortable flogging the E34 Touring in the rain.

I know next to nothing about the other 2, but I've always heard good things about the BFGoodrich G-Force Sports. Can't comment on the Yokohama S-Drives.

Thanks for the tip, I have heard pretty good things about the Hankooks with heavier cars, but was wondering about how well they would work for a lighter car like mine. I also have to say that the 200 treadwear aspect of the Hankooks seems pretty unappealing, however, like you said the wet weather performance sounds impressive.

I'm mounting a set of the 225/45-15 Hankook RS3s on my car Monday, I'll let you know how they feel initially. I'd probably steer away from the RS2s only because they probably won't be in production for too much longer and if you ever needed a replacement you'd be shit out of luck.

Went ahead and pulled the trigger on some Ventus R-S2 205/50's, after all I have read about cars as similar as mine that driven in a similar fashion as mine is, I thinks it was a pretty good choice. The handful of times I drove my brother's old E30 (similar setup as my car) with his G-Force Sport's I was impressed with the dry weather performance, but was not terribly impressed with the wet weather grip. Hopefully my first experience with Hankooks will be a decent one.

Yeah G-forces are great when its dry. Any water on the ground and the back end goes everywhere. I currently have some on my car and it really sucks to drive it in the rain.
