A tenth of an inch or so won't make a difference but nine tenths of an inch will. To maintain the correct overall diameter with a 205mm tire you need to run a 205/55/15. 195/65/14 = 23.980ins. (Stock Size Tire)
    205/50/15 = 23.071ins.
    205/55/15 = 23.877ins.
    225/50/15 = 23.858ins.

I am interested in reading the answers people have to your question. Fortunately in Texas we don't have your problems with the rain most of the time though.
225/50/15's can be too wide onthe rear depending on the offset and suspension. I have them in Toyo T1S on Eta Beta's and they are too wide, they rub bad. 205/55/15 would be better IMO although I do run 205/50 when I have the 15's on

I love my Pilot Exalto's -- I'm running a little oversized (H rated) but the ride is incredible and I swear they stick like nobody's business in just about any kind of downpour. The stance is not exactly sexy but...

Hmm I'm interested in responses too.

I was thinking about Falken Ziex 912s. Same EXACT question that optimus has... we live in the same rainy area but want that same performance. :(

I've run Direzzas.. and now I run Michelin Pilot Preceedas in 205-50-15.

The wet braking and general grip in the wet is maybe 20-30% better, it feels safe unlike the dunlop. The dry handling is the same if not better. And Direzzas wear out so fast for what they are, I'm getting amazing mileage on the Pilots, so far no wear signs after 8000km.

I run Dunlop Direzza that size on my e30. I was a lil worried about rain performance when I bought them, but have been pleasantly surprised.

Edit: Also, gripped better in the rain than my 195/65 r14 bridgestone potenza's

One of our local region champs loves the Star Specs in the wet, but I don't think those are available in your size.

You need to specify what you're looking for then.

    Allseasons or summer?

    Budget?

    Ect.

"I need new tires!" is too open-ended.
