There may be other places around, but the only place I ever hear about is Wheel Techniques in Santa Clara. While they are capable of doing great work, I have yet to experience it in the last two jobs I had them do. The first set of wheels I had done there turned out mediocre at best with black powdercoat so thin in some places that it looked brown instead of black, and the lips which were machined still had easily visible machining lines and no clear coat (contrary to what I had requested). The paint on the center caps was flaking when I came to pick up the wheels and despite this obviously being the case, I still had to request that they re-coat them which took forever when they finally did.

The second experience I had with them was not any better. I came upon some 14x6.5 BBS RA's that had some bends in them at the junk yard and brought them to WT. The head guy told me to bring them on Saturday and to pay with cash to get the work done cheaper. Well, they put the wheels in their "straightening" machine and pushed or pulled the bend out of each wheel, but put some pretty serious marks into the lip as well from where the machinery was making contact. That didn't bother me too much, but what did was that after the wheel was removed from the machine, you could see a nice 1-2mm gap where the mesh has separated from the lip. No one at WT seemed to notice or think it a problem and so I ended up wasting my money since the wheels didn't seem structurally sound enough to drive on once that happened.

Of course, I am but one customer out of thousands they have probably done work for, and my cases might be isolated, but it's food for thought nonetheless. I know they do some really nice top of the line work on Porsche, Mercedes, etc wheels which I saw when I was there, but I also go the vibe from reading stuff on the walls in regard to customers being too picky or having an "unrealistic" idea of how the wheels should turn out that the customer isn't always right in that particular place of business. I don't know about others, but when I am paying several hundred dollars for work, I want it done right and as discussed.

Thanks e-turd for the heads up... I posted this on norcale30 and was told to
try rite-way in walnut creek. Have you had any experience with them?
