    Can you de-Chrome wheels?

I found a set of wheels I like but they are chrome.

    I hate chrome.

Can I sandblast them or something to remove the chrome, just as you would with paint?

You can its a pain. I have a industrial blaster and it is still a pain takes a long time. And the harshness of the media to strip chrome really roughs up the wheels. I have done a few for some people and powder coated them. If the chrome is good you can paint or powder coat over it.

Just take them to a powdercoating place and have them sandblasted. I know guys in town that have done it, and it makes the finish kinda rough, but once you paint them, you can't notice it.

You can have them reverse chromed or un-plated, probably would leave a better surface to work with.
