Most vw's have the same centerbore as e30's. See if it fits. The wheel should be snug on the hub.

yes, they will sit way inside the wheel well. probably too far. an et40 might not fit on the front without hitting the strut, but itseems to vary depending on your car and the wheel manufacturer. I have 17x7's et 38 and they hit. you will probably need at 10 mm spacer at least.
if you want to measure the centerbore, just take a piece of string or paper and stretch it across where you cant fit your ruler, mark it, then measure that. the reason centerbore is important is to keep the wheel from vibrating. if the centerbore is too big you can get some rings that fit in there to make it the correct size. I think I paid $8 shipped for 4 of them from discount tire.

Just did this actually alittle bit ago, thanks though. Yea I know that they will hit without a spacer. I am going to be running 20mm spacers to bring their et from 40 to et20, perfect fit.
I just am wondering will I be able to test fit them at least. Am I going to be able to bolt them up for a couple seconds to make sure the centerbore is right? No driving will be going on just looking and hopefully awwwing..haha

you can put the rear ones on, but the front ones will not bolt down completely, and I wouldn't recommend trying to tighten them and have the car rest on them. you can check the centerbore on the rears, but if they came off of a vw, the centerbore *is* big enough.
I'd like to add that some people have actually had et40 7 inch wide rims clear the struts on the front, so you might get lucky, but in my experience on my car, it didn't fit. good luck!
