e38 Style 5s

I almost put together a 5 lug conversion for dirt cheap. 318ti rear end for 300, front 325I shocks, knuckles, calipers rotors for under 100, and some e36 m3 front control arm from fcp groton for a couple hundred. I was planning on running DS1s for $400 so everything would have been about a grand minus whatever I get for my current setup. But with my cheap rx 7 brakes and all the new cheap 4x100 wheels coming out I said screw it and spent the money on a new interior.

I've come to the conclusion that 5 lug susp is the smartest way to do this.

How much does a 5 lug setup cost, maybe 1g? If you find a decent deal?

So 1200 done, with better breaks and 5 lugs - aka more wheel options.

Or you can spend 200 on these, and anywhere from 200-500 to make them fit.

So 1200 vs 700. 500 dollars more for better breaks and 5 lugs. That's how I see it.

I think you're missing the point. the goal was to do the whole thing under $500. Which is entirely possible. I could just get a decent set of Ronals for less than 1200 anyway, and I don't need better brakes.

If I were to get an 5 lug setup (please let me know where I can get it for 1000-1200 btw) why wouldn't I drop a few hundred more on better looking wheels?

It's kinda like saying I can buy a stock e30 for 2500, but I can buy one w/ an m50 swap for 4000, so why not just spend the extra 1500 on the swap? But why would I get the m50 swapped one if I could get an s50 swap for 6500? Just spend the extra 2500? And why would I do that when I could get a e30 m3 for 10k? Just spend the extra 3500?

I've never looked into how the offsets are effected by e36 stuff.

then save more loot and buy some 17" style 5s.

i think you can basically do a fill and drill for the hub and solve that issue. just hard to find cheap e39 style 5s

hubcentric rings will take care of that.

additionally, i'd be WAAAAY more inclined to swap the suspension to M3 5 lug than to redrill those...
it's way safer, and is truly the right way to do it.

The hub gets too close to the 4X100 drill. Otherwise i would have loved to get those done instead.

Has anyone ever considered the safety of machining the wheel hub down to get a higher offest? I'm not talking a lot, just enough for it to be more viable to run adaptors. Someone educate me as to how unsafe this might be.

EDIT: it couldn't be that much more unsafe than those violent redrills. OR COULD IT?

I refered someone to lax right after I had mine done. He had some e39 weaves and i'd have to assume that they came out similar to jjs since the have a larger hub. Never saw pics though. I do have a spare one that I was going to have completely filled and have the hub 100 per wheel.

I just got a quote from a place in PA for $165 per wheel. Seems a bit excessive.
