    17" tire choice? yoko s-drive

    Hello,

I am looking at doing 215x40x17 front and 2350x40x17 rear using the yoko s-drive tires. Any suggestions on this set up? Anyone try this new tire from yoko? I can get the set of 4 for 500.00 locally.

    Thanks,

    Tyler

Good, but not great tire. Shockingly poor in the wet compared to the current competition.

I'm running the Continental Extreme Contact DW's and they fit the bill nicely in the 215/40-17 size and I've heard they just garnered the #1 spot in max performance summer classification at TireRack.

Depends on what you plan to do with them really. For a DD I think they're a good choice. I have S.Drive's on my DD (non-BMW) and have been very happy with them. The last set I had on it were General Exclaim UHPs which were great in the wet, but a little harder compound than my style of driving prefers. When I bought them, the Generals were #1 in class at Tire Rack. I bought the S.Drive's because I wanted something stickier for dry conditions, and haven't noticed any decrease in wet performance compared to the Generals.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Dunlop Star Specs yet. They are more expensive than the Yoko's but I was blown away by the wet and dry performance they provided on my buddies S13.

Well, what do you want from the tires? Need that first.

I really don't like those tires. I previously had falken 452s and loved them. Wet weather on the yokos sucked balls even with 245s in the front and 275 in the rear. Tread squirm is very noticable even at mild turning. The also are more square and require more fender rolling.

                  Thanks,

I am going away from the yoko's and going to get either bridgestones or conti's. Heading up to discount tire later today. \

+1 on the dunlop z1 star specs. excellent on the track, wicked around the street, rain or shine. I went with 215/45R17 on 17x7 ET25 and they fit perfect, though they rub the fender liner in reverse when turning sharply. They look awesome too, slightly meaty.

edit: here's a pic with them on the car:

Depending on what you want. Yokohama's Advan Sport are excellent, but they are soft, loud and expensive. Hard to fault them performancewise however. Michelin's PS2/PS3 are also very nice but *very* expensive. Several notches down, Bridgestone's new 'Fuzion' economy brand seems to perform well.

Bingo. This is what I got mounted up today. I went a bit larger on the size and will keep you posted if they rub. These are going on M that is lowered lightly.
