    Refinishing bottlecaps

I spent a small amount of time doing some sanding and prep work to get an idea of what my bottlecaps would look like if I tried to refinish them.

    Before:

I am debating whether to pick up a powder coating setup but I will see how the paint turns out first. I plan on finishing them in the same/similar silver color.

Note that the "6Jx14" and all the raised lettering has been ground off. There are the two recessed stamped symbols, they can stay.

I will be fitting flat center caps when I have it all finished. I am still figuring out where to find flat center caps. I will try the 2002 Accord V6 center caps first, as they are flat and I have used them on other wheels with great success.

Primered with a nearly empty spray can that wasnt shooting out consistently and ran out of paint to early.

    During:

Like I said, I kinda rushed through the prep work, If it turns out alright with the less careful prep, then I will spend some good time getting everything sanded and finished up nice.

    ****UPDATED****

I am not very satisfied with the results. I mean, I was able to get rid of a lot of blemeshis by sanding, but I had higher expectations for the final result.
Im going to go ahead and pretend like I know what I am doing and/or talking about and say that the metal flakes are too large, which makes even delicate wet sanding difficult. You can see a splotch from the clear coat and clearly I suck at painting. I am going to work on my painting skills (just using a rattle can) and try to find a paint with less metal flake in it.

Re-finished on left, an untouched wheel on the right.

Interested to know what center cap you get to work with this, I did a lot of searching a while back and never found anything. I think the wagon wheel center caps is one of the ugliest things about bottle caps.

      UPDATE!!!

I changed colors. Gold, Gunmetal, Black, and White do not look good on a black car in my opinion (depends a lot on the wheel style of course). I found "Castle Gray" which is lighter than a graphite or gunmetal color, but not flat like primer.I reallh want the original color and look but I figured I would give it a shot.

It is a red-shifted gray color which makes it look just slightly brownish. which goes with the tan interior ... sort of :P

I am thinking of just bagging the whole project and sticking with the stock unfinished wheels.

What do you think about the color?

I've always wanted to make my bottle caps white with a white E30, very interested about the flat center caps as well.

Anyone found a flat cap solution yet? I just finished my bottlecaps and would prefer anything to the stock centers/hubcaps.
