Fill & Redrill, is it safe?

    Well, just that, it's safe?

Yes it's just as safe as a regular wheel with no fill and drill.

that's not entirely true. it depends on the original pattern and the new pattern being drilled. the hub bore, how much material there is on the back of the wheel, etc.

there are a ton of factors involved which make some wheels better than others, and some that you just can't safely do.

Yea, and while a properly fill and drilled wheel should be more than safe enough for average use, i dont think you can say its exactly the same. Like led said, not all wheels can be done either, and some wheels are stronger (forged or cast) than others.

OP, any particular wheel you are considering?

i had in mind the e36 m3 style 44s. So it would be a 4x100 drill onto a 5x120 pattern. AFAIK those are cast wheels.

            Thanks for the imput.

fill and drill doesn't work with an open lug wheel, you will need something with a full centre cap to hide the fill and drill.

I think you could clear adapters with those though. Arent they fairly high offset?

no good just to fill, drill, and then some paint to cover any difference on the fill??

yeah, ET47. but i dont know how safe those adapters are.

would you say the adapters are safer than fill&drill?

i cant say for sure, but adapters are safe, and you can use it with that wheel. you cant really fill and drill that wheel so thers not really a comparsion.

fwiw, i would run adapters or fill n drills, and know many who have either or.

I'm currently running adapters, 2 weeks ago just did an 1100 mile roadtrip on them too.

They wouldn't fit without an adapter or spacer, ET 47 would be rubbing on the strut tower. ET20 - 25 is the norm on our cars.

In your specific case you would be much better off getting some adapters with such high offset wheels.
