    Winter/Snow/Ice tires for bottle caps

So after driving home from school for 3 hours on my brake pedal, i decided its time to get some new winter tires.

I need a recommendation for a good value tire, as well as the right size for snow. Ive heard a lot of different opinions.

also, if anyone bought any recently, throw me a link. ive been searching tirerack and found these : http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

heard they were pretty good from a forum member.

So give me a recommendation in that price range. little more is ok. i just want to be safe this winter, unlike last.

i LOVE my Hancook iPike W409 winter tires. one set will last many many seasons (November-April), and they do very well in the deep stuff. I've used both 185/70-14 and 195/65-14 with much the same results. has directional tread which helps with the wet slush and water, but still grabs the ice/packed snow just great.

found them on sale for you:

Those firestones are a good cheap tire. I'd opt for 185/70r14 for a snow tire. Narrow to cut through to dry(ish) road.

Firestone Winterforce ROCK for affordable snow tires. They will suck on dry highway, but in snow, they kick major ass. Plus, cant go wrong with that price.

General Altimax Arctics are another good option, and what I expect to be getting for myself in January.

winterforce +1 I drove through near whiteout conditions on the highway on these tires. Road conditions were full of new snow and very slippery. Other cars were almost at a standstill. I have enough grip on these tires to maintain about 40-50mph. Really keeps your backend straight. I should add this was my first time driving in these conditions since I'm from Tx, and now in NY.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but, I'm going to be purchasing a set of winterforce's this season and I would like to know what is the best size for me to run...I am sitting on h&r races and running stock bottle caps with 60 series tires. My rear tucks about an inch at the top of the tire so I'm weary about running taller tires. My original thought was to run 175/65/14 but I see a lot of people on here running 185/70/14. Would the 185/70 tires be too tall for my fender-well and cause it to rub with my current ride height?

I can post a pic of my ride height if needed. Thanks!

any of these sizes will work, and i would recommend using a 185 or 195, not the 175.

^ Great chart there. I have 185/70/14 General Arctic Studded tires on Bottle caps. I haven't used them yet, but I was told by the PO that he could get anywhere around here (hilly as hell Seattle) with them no problem all last winter.

This is great, tells me that the tire I want is within specs. The Nokian WRG2, they don't come in 185/70-14 so I'll have to settle for 185/65-14, or upgrade to 15's.
Does that say it makes the speedo show 2.5% lower or higher than it should, or is it referring to ride height?
