    Nokian winter tires

I just had to drive in the snow and decided that I need new tires for my ix. Even with the awd it was quite slippery. I have decided that I want to get 185/70/14 nokian hakkapeliitta tires. However, I don't know what the differences between the sets are. I want the best set for snow and ice driving. On their website they list these three:

    Someone also posted these:

Is there any real difference? Thanks

I have the hankook winter ipikes on my Jeep. Honestly they aren't THAT good for ice. For deep snow they rock. When the jeep in in 4WD I have never slipped at all though. Honestly with an IX I wouldn't spend the money on nokians unless someone else is paying for them.

I forgot to add. I have the Continental extremewintercontacts on my E30 right now. They also come in the size you just listed for $268 at tire rack. So far they are really good. The reviews have been excellent on them as well. Just trying to give you real world options.

Thanks, the last link has the nokian ipikes for 204 for the set. It usually doesn't get too icy though around here.

            nokians rock

I run Nokian RSI's on my 325iX but they have been replaced with I think the "r" if I recall. These rock and I keep them on year round and they actually wear pretty well. Go figure. Nothing better then a Nokian snow in my small meaningless opinion.

This thread is old but is the closet to what I'm reasearching. Thought I'd bring it from the dead in the interest of keeping the info together...
I'm shopping for winter tires right now. Nokian is my first choice for MN winters. I wish the WRG2 came in the correct 14" size-all I'm seeing is 185/65/R14. Would that size work on e30 steelies?

That should be fine. Narrower is better for snow tires.

that's what I was thinking. the 185 width is what my hakkapellita's are (185/70/R14) so that's fine. and the 65 sidewall height is what's usually recommended...what did you end up buying? don't need to know what you paid; just brand, size and if you like them or not?

Hey twin cities isn't too far away, I'm from the Keweenaw over in the UP. Been looking into snow's as well, but I am planning on either the General altimax arctic or the Hankook iPike W409, they are basically the exact same tire. I have had a set of each on previous cars and they are incredible in the 250+ inches of snow we get every year. And they are studable ;) From what i know they are the same tread pattern as one of the hakkapellita offerings, just a different compound and way cheaper. Can't say enough about them, wear great for a snow tire, and have incredible grip.

I actually never bought any tires. We ended up with a mild year for snow. I may get a set of the nokian's for this year as I plan on going riding a lot.

I looked into the Generals but I've heard the General Altimax Artic is crap. The Hankook's seem to get better reviews everywhere I've looked, and they do have a similar tread pattern to some Nokians.

This Forum really needs a "The Winter Tires Thread" with things moved to it so it's all in one spot...Ah well, a guy can dream.
