Falken fk-451 - anyone have an opinion??

Anyone have these or know someone who does? The price is right and they look like a decent tire. Remember, i am running a Cabby with a stock engine - It is not FUH RAZE, so I don't need anything too grippy.

My only issue with them is they are a very old design, and tire tech changes every 2 years significantly. That, and they seem to make a lot of racket compared to newer designs (they basically sound like performance tires did 4 years ago).

However, a shaved 245/35/17 set won a street class in Solo II last year I believe. So, they are very grippy tires (reportedly very close compound to the beloved Azenis RT-215s).

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. But the BF Goodrich G-Force Sport is a newer entry at the same price, and getting awesome reviews. I'd rather have those on my car.

After my Toyo T1-S's wore out, I tried the Falken FK-451 tires. Aside from wanting to try something new, I bought them mainly because of the more attractive price. They were a disappointment. They drove nice in the rain at highway speeds, but on dry roads, the Toyos had spoiled me. Bearing in mind that I'm kind of a nut on the roads, the Falken's took away the nice secure, sticky, balanced feeling on the turns. I will never buy them again. Perhaps DaveCN, for your application, since you mention stock engine, and nothing too grippy, they are the tire for you.

When Shaved Tom Hoppe won the STX national autox title with them. They are fantastic tires.

Buy the ZE-512's, I just ordered mine for $238 shipped (discounttiredirect.com, free shipping before June 1).

Yes! But, I'm sure Tom's driving talents had something to do with it too ;)

Aside from my own experiences that I wrote up above, try and get in contact with a German enthusiast from Germany, and ask what is the general verdict on the Falken's. They were great tires in the past, in still are somewhat, but there is much better rubber out there. If you don't mind paying more than the FK-451's that is.

WELL DUH! You went from the best street tire there is a cheap-ass korean tire and expected them to be BETTER? We must live in LA LA LAND!

That said, for the money I think the 451 is a great tire. I would still buy the Hankook 104 Ventus over it though.

Hi Trent....how are you? Things well at home? Life going good? Cool.

I never expected them to be better.......I only like to try new things....anything wrong with that?

DaveCN wants peoples "critique" on the FK-451. That's it...that's all.

Those were Falken Azenis RT-215 by the way, aka as camouflaged R-comp street tire class legal tire.

I know someone won something important with 245/35/17's, and the FK-451 is the only Falken in that size.

I know I'm being ambiguous, but dammit I remember that much. :P
