    Why not 17" wheels?

So I have my Hartge 16x7 3pc rims that I want to keep for cruises and show'n'shine and not have them for a DD. So I have been looking around and really like the compomotive TH2-1780

They only come in 17x8 which will fit but I want a car that gose fast around the track and I have heard alot of talk that you want a 15" wheel for track work. Could some one please explain the phyisics behind this or give me a link.

    Thanks guys

17s are fine for the track (and the street). The only thing bad about 17s is the tire selection. Only one company I know of makes a 225/40-17

The people who recommend 15s do that because the wheels are lighter, cheaper, and have a wider selection of tires.

      1)weight
      2)sidewall stiffness
      3)value/cost effectiveness

generally, a 15" wheel/tire combo is going to be lighter than any 17" package. lighter weight equals better turning/acceleration.

however, a 17" wheel is going to have a shorter sidewall so while overall grip might be the same as a same-width 15" tire, the response from the tire is going to be faster (less sidewall flex) as well, for e30s, a 17" wheel will also allow you to run 235 tires with stock fenders. you are pretty much limited to 225 on 15"

      15" stuff is cheaper.
