    Torque Sticks--Anyone use these?

Went ahead and purchased the 90 ft/lb one and just wondering if anyone can comment on their usefulness?

They are good to make sure you don't overtighten things, but I have found that if you go back with a real torque wrench, these aren't the most accurate things.

I NEED an '89 or '90 (no airbag) 325is or 325i coupe near Houston. Even a bronzit would be loved. Pm me :)

Great for a tire shop, not so great for an anal euro owner.

They do work, I still prefer a torque wrench.

Just for clarification, you do know they only work with an impact gun?

You're assuming I'm anal. Which I most certainly am.

We used them exclusively at the dealership, torque wrenches were rare.

Was just checking there is a wide range of knowledge/abilities on the forums, didn't mean to insult or anything ;-)

Anything but torque wrenches were strictly verboten at ours... :)

A race team I hang out with uses this on their S60 Challenge car. They use it on the impact gun when mounting the wheels then go over it all with a torque wrench.

They're only as accurate as the impact gun driving them, or rather the air system. I believe the system has to be at 150psi for them to set correctly. We've done the check with torquewrench test and found them to be accurate. One guy bought the Harbor Freight ones that are like extensions, and those were accurate as well.

We have customers that insist on torquewrenches, then complain about how long it took to do the tires on their 1ton dually.

yep, they are a decent thing for a volume shop, but the time you save just doing your own 4 tires isnt really worth it. When I worked in a tire shop, we did the sticks to start, and then retorqued with a wrench. they do work

used them at the tire shop i used to work at. Saves the customer from retarded employees who tighted down the lugnuts with the impact gun on full blast till it stops. Then they come in for rotors the next week, job security i suppose.

I use one on my car for quick wheel swaps with an impact. Works great.

Work at Discount Tire. PLEASE dont just use a torque stick. I have seen wheels fall off due to that. Use a torque stick to bolt the wheels on, then use a torque wrench all the way around...do that and never have to worry about anything.

OOORRRRR, just dont buy a torque stick and save some money for a sweet ass torque wrench!
