Tire Rack and tire size dilemma

Tire Rack cancelled my order after I tried purchasing a set of TR Motorsport C1 (15x8, ET20) wheels with a set of 205/55 R15 tires. When I called the customer service rep they said that they won't put a 205 on anything greater than 7.5".

OK, I know they're a tad "undersized" and maybe I'm approaching this all wrong but from what I can tell from other's photos I was certain that 205/55/15 would be a good size to avoid rubbing issues with this wheel combination. I have stock suspension at the moment, but I'm planning on either GC coils or H&R Race with drop hats.

Question: Do I go with 225 or find someone else who will mount a set of 205s?

You could have ordered them, and on checkout not specify what the tires are for, unless they are mounting them, then that would make sense. When I went to order 225/45's they said they would be a bit undersized.

I had this problem to when they got my order wrong and I called them in on it. & when they asked what the purpose was to get a 205/45/16 on a 16x9, I told them It was too run a bit of stretch. Then the rep turned into megatron about how he couldnt sell me it now that I said I wanted to stretch the tire. Then a lil bit of argueing then I re ordered. whatever

I kind of understand their issue with a 205 tire on a 9" wheel, but on an 8" wheel?... come on Tire Rack.

What is the reason behind not allowing stretched tyres. If its what the customer asked for then they should do it. 205 on an 8" is mild stretch any wheel/tyre shop should be able to do that with their eyes closed

They claim it's a liability issue, that if there was a problem with the tire down the road that TR would be liable because the tire manufacturer only recommends a 7.5" wheel or less for that size.

Many tire companys such as Falken and Toyo say that size on that wheel is no problem. Falken allows a 205/40 on an 8" wheel. What tires were you trying to buy?

Kumhos, but it's moot because TR said they wouldn't mount that size from any manufacturer. Utterly stupid.
