I run a 2 peice 17x8 and 17x9 staggared set. They are definately going to need spacers up front; I run 10mm but you could possibly get away with 8mm. I've heard of people running 5mm, but on mine they didn't work (there are some differences in the brake calipers). Or, you can run them without the rattle clips on the brakes (I wouldn't recommend it). You should get them hubcentric with the 72.5 bore, however mine aren't hubcentric and they are fine. You'll also want some spacers for the back to try to match the stance up front. They will be almost flush up front with a 10mm spacer (I'm assuming yours are 8" wide), but with no spacers in the rear they are pretty tucked. You'll need longer bolts to accompany the spacers. They'll need to be tuner bolts because they larger stock bolts won't work with the style 5's. I'd recommend a stud conversion with tuner nuts as it is soooo much easier to install the wheels.

You have to really machine the backs to run them with out spacers. Even on a m3. Here is a set we did. 17x8 all around with no spacers. Polished lips and chrome bolts.

Pretty sure the OP is referring to the 16x8 style-5's from the e38.

You can find the poly ones for about $1.50 cheaper but I've had had good service from this seller.
