    15x7 ET30 on 185/60/15 -- will it rub?

first some background: my bolt pattern is 5x120 in case it matters (i don't believe it does). i am currently running 205/50/16 front and 225/45/16 rear on 16x8 ET23 all around with no (or very minimal) rubbing.

i have 185/60/15 winter tires on order -- will they rub worn on 15x7 ET30 all around? at first i was confident that they wouldn't - 185! - but i recently test-fitted those very same 15x7 wheels wearing 205/55/15 all around, and much to my surprise/dismay, they rubbed. so now i'm not sure.

i intend on running those 15x7s as my winters regardless, so if 185/60/15 will rub, what size tire won't (bearing in mind that there aren't a ton of winter tire sizes available)? from looking around, it appears the other (costlier) option would be 195/55/15. i need to figure this out soon so i know what to do with my order.

    thanks in advance.

neat calculator (the best one i've seen), but i'm not sure it answers my question.

for example, plugging in current numbers versus the 205/55/15 i test-fitted, i would have assumed they would have fit (this is actually precisely what i did, but using a different site's tire calculator):

however, the test-fitted tires rub, whereas the current setup doesn't (which itself is baffling to me).

Looks like the 205/55/15 is smaller than your current setup on the 16s, and the snow tire would be even smaller than that. In theory, it shouldn't rub. I don't really see why it does as it pokes less and has a smaller overall diameter. If anything, a minor fender roll should fix your issues.

Where do they rub? if they rub on the shock I could see that -- keep strut angle in mind, it's the reason 16s can sometimes fit more tire than 15s and 14s.

i don't know, to be honest. i did consider that, but i think it's rubbing on the liner and not the strut.

but if it is the strut and not the fender, would a spacer solve my problem?

yes. but then you could be rubbing the fender after the spacer. ;)

btw, I am running 225/45/16 on et30(i believe) x7.5 and have no rubbing issues, maybe a little at full lock, but I've never been there.
