    255/40r17 too big?

I found a deal on snow tires (used).. but they are staggered 255/40/17 and 225/45r17.

Ive had 225/45s on my car and they were pretty close to being too big. I am planning on putting taller coils in the rear and adjusting my coilovers all the way up for a winter ride height, but still I dont know if the rear will work with big 255 rubber.

Skinnier and taller is the preferred method for winter tires not wider and lower profile. Think 175-75-14 if this is e30.

I have e36 M3 brakes up front so im limited to a 16" or larger tire. I own an extra set of 17" rims so I figured id use them for the snows. I know a larger sidewall and skinnier tread is optimal.. but these tires are like new and only 250.00 for the set.. so if they will physically fit, I will be happy
