    Why esm-002's over RS's?

So, I've been looking around for wheels for quite some time and I've waffled back and forth about esm's VS some other wheel, and I eventually just went for bbs RS's.

So I'm wondering, why does there seem to be so many people enamored with esm-002's when you can get RS's for around the same price?

It's the original, and they're real 3 piece wheels, unlike the ESM's.

I'm not trying to call anyone out; I just don't realize why someone would want the 002's over the RS's. I originally thought it was because RS's were way more expensive. I know they can be, but there are plenty out there that can be had for a comparable price, right? Maybe I'm missing something here.

Mostly it would be because RS are hard to find in 4x100, and even harder to find in 16" and 4x100. Since they don't make the RS anymore, they are also not readily available.

Personally, I've only ever bought the real RS. I'm on my second setup. This time 5x120.

      What was your budget?
I would probably choose esm because it's cheaper, IIRC in order to have BBS RS in a 16x9 size you'll be paying close to $1800.00 not including tires. ESMs could be had for less than $1400.00, that's just my take but I know purist and other people want it done right the first time.
Personally, I try to stay away from weaves all together, they are nice but such a pain to keep clean.........

        Around the same price ?

A set of 16'' RS (including redrill) will cost you way more than a set of ESM.

I think I'm over 3000$ (including tires) for my RS.

          That's insane.

          I paid $1000 for a full set of 5x120 16"x8" BBS RS.

And I paid $800 for my last set. Those were 4x114 16"x7" and 16"x8". I had to buy adapters, so I was into that set for $1100.

You know, I've had RA's, and I personally like that the weaves get a little dirty. haha. but maybe it's cuz i like gunmetal more than silver anyway.

So you guys say that 4x100's are hard to find, but is redrilling not an option? Is it because redrilling would cost another couple hundred or is it because there aren't very many flat-back RS's? My budget was in the range of $5-600; I wasn't even looking for RS's in that range, but I found my RS's for 665, and i thought it was too good to pass up. I realize that most RS's sell for more, but I still think anything around $1000 is worth it for these wheels, if you have the coin to spend.

And if not, there are some (like mine) that can be found for less.

Like stated earlier, 16s don't come easy, redrill is not really an option for me. The price of the ESMs is about $1200 slightly used, with fairly newer tires. Please show me a real set of RSs in 16x9 or close those specs for around the same price.
I realize that living in Cali, we are spoiled with way better deals but to have a like new set of real RSs is pricey, just look at Jim's post.

To get RS's to the same dimensions/specs/lugs/lips as the ESM's, the prices will not be comparable.

The same "look" for half the price is why people go with the ESM's.

Because the price is more than double for rs's in that spec. A set of very nice RS003's sold in a few hours earlier this week for like 2500. They weren't 16x9 either. You can find them much cheaper in different bolt patterns, but also factor in the pain in the ass factor of a fill and drill.

Just bought a set for 800 before adapters/redrill and new lips. People like the esms because there cheap and maintenance free. Also readily available.

I sold my set of 16x9's and 16x10's with new tires and adaptors for $1600. And it took me a few months to do it. You can find 5x120 sets for under $1000 pretty easily.

Alot of people don't want to run adapters.
                          $800 wheels
$100 for re drill (because they were 4 lug)
                          $200 powder coating
                          $100 chroming bolts
$150 polishing lips and hex caps
                          $800 3" lips
                          $20 Hub rings

So thats $2086 if you can find a set with completely straight barrels and in a 4 lug pattern to have them in the same condition as a new set of 16x9 ESM wheels. Otherwise you'd have to add an additional $150 if they are a 5 lug. And if the BBS logos are spider cracked you'll need to add another $300 for those.

How much would a decent set of BBS RS 16x7 et25 go for? 4x100. Does 800 bucks sound like a good deal? The wheels aren't perfect but they aren't horrible.
