    Repainting Wheels

So I just cleaned up the Compos the other day, and I've just been debating how I am going to repaint them.

I plan on using tal-strip to remove the old paint, then using bare metal primer and enamel to repaint.

Anyone worked with tal-strip before or know what kind of results to expect?

Or any other tips for repaint wheels?

Powdercoat. If you shop around you can usually find a place to do them for what you'd end up spending on quality supplies.

The rustoleum enamel is holding up well on my wheels, A lot cheaper than powder coating I would imagine.

painting is 90% prep. get your wheels cleaned up well and you can pretty much use anything.

are the tires still on? I can offer you a few tips either way.

Yeah I would love to powder coat but I don't have the cash, not to mention I already bought all the paint and stripper.

          Tires are off.

From looking at some videos online the paint remover looked pretty damn effective. After all the old paint is removed should I hit the bare metal with some 600-800 sand paper?

Well took the paint stripper to two of the wheels yesterday, found out there was at least 3 layers of paint before. I think the original color was a metallic deep bronze-ish color, similar to many of Compo's wheels. It appears someone painted black over that, then white on top of it all, and maybe something else in there hard to tell.

The stripper was great but couldn't get all the paint off, so just going to sand the rest down. At least these wheels are going to look their best when they are done..

@mkcman17 that's funny, I'm glad she's had some character and seen some action, still running strong. I haven't done much to her besides maintenance and cleaning but I finally cleaned out the engine bay as much as I could, got rid of half a beach worth of sand haha

Go buy some methylene chloride. It WILL strip it to bAre metal in about 15 minutes it will also burn you in a bout 5 seconds.

                Rinse w water

                Self etching primer

                Paint.

                Enjoy
