kumho ecsta v700's for my daily driver 318is

kumho ecsta v700's for my daily driver 318is
i found a set of brand new kumho ecsta v700's for sale for the price of a cheaper all-season tire and i plan on autocrossing my 318is in the future and was wondering how they would be for a street tire too, theyre 205/50r15 and i plan on putting them on a set of 15x8 wheels, as long as i can get 10-12k miles out of them will be fine, and how are they for an autocross tire too? thanks

I kinda hope this is a joke... Those are Dot-R compound tires, and not meant to be driven on the street. And no, you won't be able to get anywhere near the 10-12k miles you want out of them, the UTQG is only 50 (meaning maybe 1k miles if your lucky) Read this before you go any further:

Idk, I would be amazed if you get that kind of mileage out of them. I guess give it a run if you want, just realize they are R-compound tires.

I have about 14k on these tires now on my 15x7 K1's I have auto-x'ed them at 3 events and generally drive like a jack ass on these tires @ all times as my e30 is more or less a toy. These tires hold up well, are pretty grippy, and I have overall been pleased with them. I live in southeastern NC where winter tires aren't needed though. I expect another 2-3k out of these tires.

Or you can you go with this guy's opinion it seems like he has read a lot about them on forums.

Actually haven't read anything about them on any forums. Just saw that they are meant for competition use, with a treadware all of 10 points higher than the slicks I autoX on, which will last me maybe 120 autoX runs if I'm lucky. Granted UTQG ratings, espicially with tires like these are pretty arbitrary, but I didn't think the V700's would last nearly that wrong. Obviously your experience, and what I have heard from other people since I posted above, says different. I personally still wouldn't run them on the street, but that's just me.

The ignorance in here is astounding...

Did you read what the manufacturer recommended? I really hope you don't get in an accident and drive cautiously.

I have driven many an R comp tire on the street. It's not recommended as the compounds on these tires are not optimal until a certain temperature is reached. The reason your probably getting Ok tread wear is due to never getting them to temp.

That and driving on the freeway in heavy rain and turning the wheel while still going straight is enough to teach you the importance of proper tires.

                          Just for your info.

The Ecsta V700 (V70A) is Kumho’s Track & Competition DOT radial that was developed in Europe and imported to the United States for drivers who participate in autocross and track events. Like its companion (the Kumho VictoRacer V700), the Ecsta V700 is attractively priced and designed to be a racing value by delivering great traction and treadwear per dollar.

While Ecsta V700 radials meet DOT requirements, they are not appropriate for highway use. Shaved or worn Ecsta V700 radials are not recommended for driving in wet conditions where standing water is present and there is the risk of hydroplaning; drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions. And like all Track & Competition DOT tires, Ecsta V700 radials are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice. It’s also essential these tires be stored indoors at temperatures maintained above 32 degrees F.

The Ecsta V700 molds Kumho's specially formulated, high-grip silica competition tread compound into a directional design that features wide tread ribs in the shoulders and intermediate tread blocks to maximize dry cornering grip while enhancing handling and treadlife. The Ecsta V700's directional tread design is molded with 6/32" of tread depth in its two major circumferential grooves to help provide wet traction when run at full tread depth. Kumho advises that the Ecsta V700 Track & Competition DOT radial must be shaved prior to use in dry conditions.

The tire’s internal structure includes two steel belts reinforced by two nylon cap plies to help stabilize the tread area and provide high-speed capability. A symmetric internal construction featuring three plies in the sidewall enhances quick steering response and high-speed stability.

As the tire's outer shoulder tread wears from hard cornering, the Ecsta V700's directional tread design and symmetric internal construction allows worn tires to be remounted "inside-out" on their wheels to prolong their life.

Important Notice: Kumho Ecsta V700 tires must be shaved to 3/32" - 4/32" tread depth for any autocross or track use in dry conditions.

If this tire is not shaved, excessive heat and wear may occur causing the tire compound to blister or wear to the cords prematurely in a localized area.

Tire heat cycling will not prevent the excessive localized wear of full tread depth tires but will continue to enhance tire consistency and wear on shaved tires.

The Ecsta V700 should only be used at full tread depth (6/32") for wet track and wet autocross use.
