It COMPLETELY depends on the fitment you desire. Are you low? 17" wheels will need a 215/45 to be at correct fitment size.

I would say a 20mm spacer and pony up for wheel studs from this good man:

82mm stud conversion kit, he also carries 20mm spacers. They are perfect fit on the e30 and to the wheels. Let him know I sent you ;)

I have his product on my e30 and my Brother's e30. They are top of the line studs, not Chinese shit.

anyhow from searching also i saw 2 people that have fitted et40's with no spacers and they dont hit

They will fit in the rear without spacer but I'd be very shocked if they fit in front. Even if they DID fit it would look terrible. As suggested above go with 20mm spacers all around, 15mm at minimum.
