Performance tire selection for 14" wheels..

There basically are none. I need tires for my basketweaves, and I don't want to move up to a 15" wheel yet. My car's purpose is spirited daily driving and auto-x car on the weekend. There's no true inbetween, with 195/60's you have passenger "performance" tires which won't keep you too competitive on the track, and then you have 225 R-Comps which are too expensive and not ideal for my daily use.

And then you have 185/14's which are Yokohama S-drives (suck), Dunlop Star Specs and Falken Azenis RT-615K.
185's seem a bit narrow for an E30, especially a 318is with no weight over the rear end.

How well would these tires work on an E30?

I am continually mystified as to why everyone wants to run skinny under-diameter tires on their e30s.

What fucking idiot started spouting this crap on the forums and everyone started listening? I know it wasn't Mystikal.

    Rant over, try these: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=false&cs=205

Had them in 225/50-15 on my first e30, would get them again if they were available in the right size for my 16s, but they aren't, so I'm on KDWs.

Wouldnt really reccomend them. Soft sidewalls.

and Ive been told these Sumitomos are really good as well.

About the only REAL performance tire (not those crap ziex all seasons) with a decent size is the 195/60/14 Falken RT615k; http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fal-18297/overview/

The Dunlop ZII comes in a 185/60, but IMO that's just too small, even if it will out-perform all the other all season crap offered in 14".

I had 14" Falken 615s (before the 615k) and they were great. Probably your best option in 14".

what so bad about these? some reviews i read is that they suck in snow.
im in California so that wont be an issue.

anything else i should know about these before i drop 355 for the whol package?

Another vote for 205/60/14. Personally, I have never had a problem with the side wall on this sized tire. My ,02 cents.

What's your problem with S-Drives? I'm generally curious, as those were going to be my next tire.
