    5lug swap wheel fitment questions

    Hey everyone.

I do not understand this wheel fitment stuff. I'm working on a 5lug e30 swap. I bought a hub adapter kit that allows me to use E46 hubs and rotors on the front struts on my 91 e30. This pushes the wheels out 12mm on each side because the hubs are thicker.

For the rears I can use M3 hubs with no change to the offset or I can use Z3 hubs with a 23mm increase.

I bought 2 sets of wheels now:
    Style 82 7x16 et20
    Style 17 7x15 et47

Can I use either of these? If so what option should I use for the rear. If not, what ET do I need? I want a clean look with no poke, and I would like to keep my fenders. I am in the woods here and want to get this project started. Any help would be welcome.

Oh I've read most of those threads. I still don't understand how et works, or how the 12mm thicker hubs effect it. Thanks for giving me direction, but I think I might have to go visit a tire store to understand how this works.

Ok I went by the tire store, but the kids in the sales department didn't know much more then I did. I looked at the wheels and think I got a handle on this offset stuff. Someone let me know if I got this right.

The 91 318 E30 (according to RealOEM) came with ET35 wheels.

The front E46 Hubs push the wheels out 12mm.

        Option1 - 7x15 ET47 - This seems closest to stock
        Front - ET47 - 12mm = ET35
        Rear M3 Hubs - ET47 - 12mm Spacer = ET35

        Option2 - 7x16 ET20 - ET8 seems to low
        Front - ET20 - 12mm = ET8
        Rear M3 Hubs - ET20 - 12mm Spacer = ET8

        Option3 - 7x15 ET47 - Or I could do this
        Front - ET47 - 12mm Hub - 12mm Spacer = ET23
        Rear Z3 Hubs - ET47 - 24mm Hub = ET23

Do I have this at all correct?

ET20 won't fit on the front. Ideal would be around ET35-38, gives you just a bit of poke for a more aggressive fitment. ET47 might be a bit too much inboard for the fronts, it will definitely sit too far inboard in the rear on M3 hubs (z3 hubs would work).

If I am understanding this then:

Option1 would be 6.3mm closer to the strut and poke out an additional 6.3mm (1/4 inch)

Option3 would be 5.7mm further away from the strut and poke out an additional 18.4mm (3/4 inch)

Either option seems like it would work on "WillTheyFit.com" It just comes down to how much more poke I want? (1/4 or 3/4 inch?)
