185/70/14 too narrow for e30?

Picked up a set of steelies with "BMW" hubcaps for the e30 the other day. THey came with a set of 195/65/14's that had ok tread but were dated from the 23rd week of 2002 (far too old to be considered safe to drive on iMHO).

I was thinking of going with 185's as they would be narrower and offer better noise isolation and better fuel economy

any advise?

I think that's a bit tall.

I have 185s as snow tires and they are great. Dunlop Graspic 185/70/14, and they are REALLY quiet. Mounted to bottlecaps. Good winter wheel
