        Spaz,
What size tires are you planning on running for the track on the 17 inch wheels? I haven't seen any R compound tires in the proper size (225/40/17, 215/40/17, 205/45/17). Are you gonna try to squeeze some 235/40/17's under there, which are readily available and commonly used on E36 M3's?

FWIW, most guys use 225/50/15 or 205/50/15 on their e30 track cars, myself included. Lighter and plenty of rubber available. If you start off using max performance or ultra high performance tires on the track, they'll be fine for a while, you'll want to use R compound rubber eventually. Trust me.

FWIW, those wheels do look pretty sweet, unlike most 17's on E30's.

        Good Luck,
        Jim

                    Trent,
That's an interesting idea. Pretty close to stock diameter but on a 17 inch wheel. I do like being able to run a 225 tire, though, but I plan on running a 225/45/15 when my 225/50/15 RA-1's wear out this season.

Jeeze, now you've got me thinking about a third set of wheels for my friggin car! :?

no... 205/40/17 is very small. If I remember correctly it is about an inch shorter than stock diameter. Massive gearing gain :)

well the r comound tires that are on there right now are 205/40/r17, i'll most likely go with the same...for the smae reason as trent, a VERY nice gearing gain. heh
