I think they're from an e39, not 100% sure though

edit- now I'm sure. The m5 wheels are 16x7.5

Just picked these up today, $130 for the set from a pull and pay yard. Some jerk took the center caps in the last 24 hours, they were all together yesterday.

Can't upload pics from my phone. Mine were on a 1998 740iL. E38 I believe.

I'm pretty sure the specs are the same...they're at the shop getting the tires taken off

the e38s should have come with 8j's. At least all the ones I've seen at junk yards have 8j style 5's

7j was what you got if you ordered the winter tire and wheel package for your e38. You can still buy them new. I was thinking about getting 2 for the front to run a staggered set up on my car so a smaller tire wouldnt look stretched out but they have the same amount of poke as the 8j so you do not have any additional fender clearance.

Close, but not quite. The 8j wheels have an offset of 23. The 7j wheels have an offset of 20. The rule of offsets as I know it to be is 1" of wheel width is 12mm of offset change.

To go from a 7j et20 to 8j et23, you need to add over 0.5" to the barrel and under 0.5" to the lip.

What I'm trying to say is the 7j wheels do give you more fender clearance. Here's a picture to help out.

side note, I have a pair of 16x7 Style 5's for sale potstir

Good call! I did math wrong. Was thinking it was closer to 5mm which is dismal. 10 is substantial. Did you still need a spacer on the 7" to clear the brakes? What is the weight savings?

No worries. I didn't redrill them, I ran 18mm adapters; so I wouldn't be able to give you a definite answer. But IIRC a small spacer is needed to clear the brakes for 8j (~ 3mm). These should be able to bolt up with no spacer due to the smaller barrel width vs the 8j wheel.

Weight savings I cannot report, but I can weigh the lone 16x7 to compare against a 16x8 value.

It is the weave spokes that hit on the 8j as well as the lip. The 7j lip wouldn't be a problem but the spoke may be. In the 8j you need 5-8mm spacer to clear the caliper.
