Is there any way, other than mounting a tire, that I can tell a wheel is straight with no warps or anything? Could I just take it to a tire place and see if they will turn it?
I'm no help, but I would assume you could spin balance a wheel sans tire. That's a good question, never seen it done. Why you worried, is there a serious flat spot? Lip bumps are usually no problem and the tire can still hold a bead. I've seen people driving some busted wheels, and seem to be fine.
No I just want to make sure before I sell it, maybe to a forum member, that it isn't bad. There are no signs of any bad things but I just want to be 100% sure. I got accused of sending someone a bad rim and for sure new it wasn't but I don't want a bad rep.
I'd look in the phone book and call a tire shop. Mailing aluminum rims scares me, I bought some off ebay once for an old ford, and although they were claimed to be perfect, they got to me with some flat spots. Probably from ooops (ups), but you're right you should be able to say it was the shipping service not the shipper if there is a problem. I'd photo document them really well, and call the tire shop and see if they have the ability to check it's roundness.
Okay, Thanks. I did it with the last one and he sent me pics of a wheel that had a ton of curb rash on it and stuff. I just showed him the pics of what I sent him and well I haven't recieved any emails back.
