215's are a VERY close fit...what do you guys think?

Well i had recently purchased some 17" wheels, and just now got some BF goodrich G-force Sport tires which at 215/45 ZR17

Now, heres the problem. My car is lowerd, with the H&R cup kit, so its not has hard as others and has quite a bit more give to it. Anyway, everytime i hit a bump with the tires turned...it always rubs just a little bit, but if i hit one big enough, it fucks up the fender. The front tire hits the lip inside the fender and pops it out. The first time it did this, i pounded it back, and some paint chipped off and i had put some touch-up paint on it.(the back dosent really rub, but i cant quite tell).

So today, i went up my driveway (not a very big bump) with my tires turned about a quater or the way, and BAM, it does it again.

I know sombody with a heat roller, but i am begining to think that the 215's might have been to big becuase even with the fenders rolled, im probably going to have to worry about rubbing.

I have attached the picture of the "after pounding" of the fender, and of the car with the wheels....

i personally love the way they look... :D (bought them off of here too)

anyway, tell me what you think.

    Thanks

That's what you get for having a Cup Kit. Just roll the fenders and see where you're at.

I probably would have went with a 215/40 on a 17in wheel. They are pretty tall for a 17.

215s aren't too big for your car. The 45 sidewall is too big for your car.

I am currently running the same size tires as you. I had to roll the fenders and shave my rear spacers down 7mm, but I was able to get them to work without rubbing... until last week when I installed my offset control arm bushings. Now they rub all the time when I'm doing any mild turning.

I will be replacing them with some 215/40-17s within the week.

215/40r17 it the perfect size for a 17x7 wheel. Any different and your speedo is innaccurate as well as effed fenders.

I have the above size on some wheels with H&R Sport springs on it with zero fitment issues.

i ran 215/45-16 on a 16x7 wheel et25 all last summer - and they were hankook RS2s, somewhat wider than a normal 215... and i'm on a cup kit. no issues up front at all. .. had a bit of rubbing in the rear on squat, but no turning issues.

Get m3 offset cabs or caster plates - it will alleviate the problem. Easier than having to get a new set of tires.

                      ....but that is a 16in wheel, not a 17... I have 225/45 r16s on my 325is 16x8 et20...

The m3 Cabs offset the mounting of the control arm, and that pushes your wheel forward (caster). You get better turn in and high speed stability also. The camber caster plates adjust your camber and caster from the top of the strut by moving the mount. Ireland engineering, TC Kline and Ground Control all sell something for that.

I understand completely - however, it's a good description of how the width isn't the issue vs the profile/sidewall. 45 profile on a 17" wheel will be way taller than a 45 profile same width on a 16" :)

lol, just tell the tire shop they ride like shit and go to another one to buy the new tires with your refunded cash in hand! I worked at Discount Tire for 3+ years and people did that shit all the time. Hell, I did that once or twice to my own store!

What brand are those wheels? I like em!
