Really, it just comes down to personal preference. If someone likes something, then they should do it. For example, most of the stretched tire setups I see, I really don't like, but there are some that I do like. If I call something on someone's car stupid, good for me, but who cares? The owner of the car certainly shouldn't. Problems arise when they don't like the criticism and lash out, and due to the spread of misinformation on the internet, conversations go in all sorts of crazy directions and people come up with some really stupid defenses that they tend to make up because they think it makes sense.

In the end, it doesn't matter matter what "internet communities" think or don't think. This comes down to a hobby for individual enthusiasts that can do whatever they like to their own car with their own money. Everyone just has to be ready to face criticism when sharing their ideas, because people criticize.

Sold both my bmw's and got something practical(2007 loaded Accord ex V6) being a family man, saving up my pennies for a house, after that pans out, I will start searching for an e30 m3, this time I probably wont' sell after building it.

I finally got a '95 M3 rack. I really don't like the standard e30 rack. Felt like it was ruining an otherwise very ideally setup car in my case. Instructors didn't like some of the 'hand shuffling' I was doing for some turns and I agree. It's no big deal, but a quicker rack feels much nicer and is quite a bit easier.

I've been extremely busy for the past couple years so the car hasn't gotten much attention. I've been focusing a lot on work/jobs and I have to go out of the country for a little bit at the end of this week. I'm also waiting to hear back this week if I got a new job that will fund my track budget for this season (only going to do 4 or so DE's though).

Not to go too much off topic, but where do you stand in the e30 scene these days? Plans for the future?

And Zimmie, that's the factory tire for the Elise. It's the only car that uses that size. I don't know much about 'good stretched' setups, but I'm sure people here can make some nice suggestions. My only recommendation is to really try to keep the overall tire diameter and circumference atleast as large as the factory size so that it fills the wheel well appropriately.

You are aware that the aspect ratio is a percentage of the tire's width, right?

A 185/55R16 will have the EXACT SAME sidewall size as a 225/45R16. Both tires being a match for OEM spec circumference and diameter. Because the e30 overall diameter size of 24 inches is not widely used anymore, I imagine he also searched for a 185/60R16 because it's easier to find slightly oversized tires because modern cars use larger tires.

What is the fascination with running narrow, grossly undersized tires on wide wheels that don't fill the wheel well at all, and looks like a ghetto hoopty car?

And this guy wants stupidly narrow tires because he only wants to run a 7" wide wheel with stretch tires, another silly idea at that.

Only option for stretching on a 16x7 is running a lotus elise front tire at 175/55R16.

priced @$175 each tire, :( that way over over my budget.

But stretch is a style for looks and nothing more. And there's no problem with that. nothing wrong with running stretched tires. if your not running stretched tires then your fitment isn't the best. now im not saying that it doesn't look good unless your stretched its just a preference thing for some. i love the look of the rotas with 225s.

as far as 205 50s on a 16x8...just a little stretch. thats a lot of sidewall. too much personally. 215-40-16 is the prefect size for low offset 8 inch wheels. for a nice amount stretch on a 16x8 a 205-45 would be ideal.

With certain wheels, in order to put a tire on that will not rub, you have to go smaller hence stretching. There are legitimate reasons for doing it other than looks. Performance is not necassarily ideal, but it can allow you to put the most rubber and a wider wheel on. It's not ricer, that makes no sense. Its Euro baby!

So it is basically for looks then cause you want a certain wheel... because otherwise, you'd have the same rubber on a more appropriately sized, narrower wheel, wouldn't you?

That's true about the Euro thing. The ricer comment was pretty stupid. I don't know of any ricers that stretch their tires. If anything, it's starting to become more common in the drifting scene.

However, I do agree that if it is done, it should only be done on wider wheels like backtrail69 said.
