Please help me pick tires for my needs

Kumho MX's have a really stiff sidewall...i mite try those.

AFAIK, the Toyo T1-R, Goodyear GS-D3, and Falken FK-452 are the only tires in 245/35/17.

And MX's aren't very great anymore. I'd bet 215/40/17 RT-615's would be faster and feel a lot better.

Ryan Gangemi did that on his M3 (LM replicas)...said it was floppy. I might try it with Falken FK-452's (stiffer sidewall than the GS-D3), but the Goodyear is just too compliant to hold up to undersized rims.

Q, 245/35/17 on a 17x7.5 rim? diameter is = to 215/40/17, but recommended rim width is 8-9"...

Good choice! The BFG tires are great choices..but as I recall the 2006 tire of the year from car and driver (or was it road & track)? was the Eagle F1 GS D3.

The Ziex is most likley the worst tire amoung those (everone has different opinions)

The BFG T/A KDW is the best dry traction tire of the group..but it faulters in the wet..

The Pirelli P Zero Neuro M+S is a great tire for Ohio climate..The tread wear is 320..not that low of a treadwear so they should easily last 5 years+ if you take care of them , etc.
It's basically a max performance summer tire with an all season rating (hence the M+S..or "mud and snow". It's a good tire all around.

The F! GS D# is probably what I'd get tho...ultimate traction..great tire. Good choice

Awesome, well I just got a price of $658 from discount tire which is only a couple more bucks than tire rack but that is with life time rotation, blow out/flat tire repair (free) and other things. Also that includes the disposal of my current tires which I won't have done because I will be selling them.

I am getting the Eagle F1's.

If I am just going to be using my tires, which I have found out can be ordered from discount tire, just for the summer months which is 5 months out of the year. Can I expect a few years out of them? Like I said, really no aggressive driving (sometimes), no track and I work for 3 months 3 miles away from my house.

So lets say I put 2000 miles on them a year. Will I get good life out of them?

The rubber will harden before you hit the wear bars with that little driving. Expect a good 5 years out of them.

They are good tires, came stock on my r32 and also comes stock on some corvettes iirc. I've put about 22k miles on mine with very aggressive driving and 1 full season of autocross and 1 hpde and other than soft sidewall (pay extra attention to what tire pressures you run in them) had no issues whatsoever.

Heck yea man. just keep them in a nice place in the winter, and don't run into and over curbs and you will be just fine. Since when is summer 5 months here?

Okay sounds good. I will just get the correct size. Now I need to purchase tires/spacers/hubcentric rings and they will be on!

You could, but then you run the risk of clearance issues. You have to deal with the front fender lining as well as possibly the bodywork itself.

Unless one is trying to shoehorn on 235's and wider, I don't recommend going oversized.

Alright great thanks again for all the help. I am still working with discount tire to get the Eagle F1's. They have the SPT's in stock but don't carry the Eagle F1's in the 215/40-17.

Since our cars are always about 5% off on the speedo could I go to a taller tire and be about at the correct speedo reading?

If I knew which tire (out all that have been discussed) was the absolute BEST in the rain I would be getting tires on monday.

Could someone explain to me how the hydroplaning, wet weather performance is judged/works?

When I look at the Eagle F1's I can imagine me going 60mph on an on ramp and spinning out because they don't look like they would shed water well. I don't really understand how tires, unless all seasons or something that has similiar tread patterns, are good in the wet.

Thanks, I am just trying to avoid a spin out in the vert. I drive careful especailly in the rain but don't want any unexpected slip ups in the tires to cause any thing.

The GS-D3 is simply the best (if not, 99% as capable as the best) rain tire out there. It's tread is IDEAL for hydroplane resistance.

Everything I said in my previous post stands. The GS-D3 is perfect, and if you want to save some money the Kumho SPT is a great alternative.
