I did not go with the cheap stuff when I bought the stud kit. I bought from Vorshlag which has the thread smooth thread deal like you described.

I believe that the studs came with the paste but I will double check. I think I will have someone that has done the conversion help me out.

they comes with a liquid locktite 2701 commercial use (super hardcore locktite) i've had the kit for a few months and i change tires about every week, every other at most and no prob. I also run non-hubcentric 5mm spacers, but while the rim is slightly tight i align the spacer so that it centers out...125+mph and no vibrations so i think its safe for my 75mph tops track use

I have the TMS stud kit on my SCd Mcoupe and am running some sizeable spacers and its perfectly safe. Like others said, infinitely more so than bolts.
