The older style BBS racing wheels use a spacer ring with "O" rings. The center piece bolts to the outside of the halfs. Not used or should say, "should not be use on street"Leave a comment:

depends. clear coat for a machined surface, a highly polished surface usually wont take clear very well so quite often it can simply be polished metal covered by wax to help protect it against corrosion.
some wheel manufacturers might use gaskets, but most these days (including the majority of people who repair/restore them) will use a silicone based sealant.
True, balance and warping issues can occur. There is no real reason to pull them appart unless they are damaged. If restoring them and painting centres, clean the wheel then spray the wheel the colour of choice, dont mind about overspray on the lips. Then hit it with your choice of clear and let the whole lot cure.
Then you can go back, mask up the centre section and spin up the wheels, strip the area of paint and polish the surface with sandpaper and grit polish or compound block as needed.Leave a comment:

Another BBS RS question
When refurbishing a set of RS wheels, the center is painted and the lip polished. Any clear coat or lacquer on either?
If dismantling I understand there is some sort of o-ring between the lip and barrel. Where can I find this o-ring?
I have been advised not to dismantle unless absolutely necc.Tags: None
