Looks to me that the 225/35/17's are rated for a 7.5" min rim width. Has anyone attempted this on 7"w rims? If not, does anyone know what will happen if you try to do this?
225/35/17 on 7"w wheels possible?

theres actually quite a few tires made in that size. i just discovered them as well. i work at discount tire(americas tire in some states). so heres the problem with putting that tire on a 7. with say a 225 45 on a 7 the sidewall is gonna be buldged. causes goofy tire wear and doesnt let you you use the tire to its full potential. you will get a bout the same tire contact patch as a 215 45 17. now a 225 35 obviously isnt going to have as much sidewall to work with, causing it to not want to work very well. A) it will be a bitch for whoever is mounting it cause more risk of damaging your wheel B) whoever you have mount them may not do it because of the risk. to answer the question of is it possible, yes. would i or other tire shops recomend it...most likely not. when i mount 215 40s on 7 inch wide wheels i ask myself why......personally i wouldnt put a 225 on anything narrower than 8 inches. honestly i would recomend investing a little more money in a higher end 215 40 or 45 17 than spending the extra dough on a specialty size such as a 225 35 17. ;)

Sounds good enough to me. I would put the tires on myself and I have dealt with 35 series tires on larger wheels so I know what I'm getting into (real PITA), but for the cost I will just get some 215's again. thanks for the info it was helpful.
BTW for anyone asking why such a weired size. if you calculate that size vs the stock 195/60/r14 you will see its almost identical in size.Comment

Oh, you'd care if you are weighing in the difference of R comps in 15 or 17 inch in terms of dollars... Budget racing FTW! :D
Plus theres no cool size for any of my 3 sets of 17" rims in an R comp... they are all too small, or too big :( Maybe I should get those Rota Boosts you were referring to... hmm.... lolComment

Yeah...except no.
RT-615s have noticably better wet performance data than R-S2's, and gievn my experience with both I can attest that it is true. R-S2's will channel water a lot better, but as long as you're not speeding in a downpour or running the tires below the wear bars RT-615's are fine.

^ what he said..ive never driven in rain with rt-615s but my buddy with an e30 setup similarly to mine runs them. he says its like your on ice. now i had rs2s on my car for awhile and they werent even brand new but they did pretty damn well in the rain.

Right. Here's some test data that isn't heresay: http://www.eurotuner.com/techarticle...on_scores.html
Far from poor performance in the wet.
