I'm building a low buck race car out of an 87 BMW 325 (our car cannot be worth more than $500 excluding safety equipment and tires), and we're going to be using Falken Azenis RT615 tires (getting a great deal through a friend). We could run the stock 14" bottle caps because the tires come in 195/60/14, but we want to step up to 15" wheels to get a little more rubber on the ground (the tires come in 205/50/15s).
This is cheapo racing and contact with other cars is likely, so we're looking for cheap junkyard wheels. Searching netted me this list:
This will help a lot in our junkyard search. But my question is regarding offset. Nearly all of the other models in the list linked here are FWD, which means the wheels have higher offset than the stock E30 wheels. If I was to run the 205/50/15s on 15X6 wheels with FWD offset (from a VW or something), will I have problems with the wheels/tires hitting the strut or other parts of the suspension?
I know the ultimate solution is spacers (we are converting it to studs anyway for ease of tire changes), but spacers are expensive and defeat the purpose of going with junkyard wheels.
Thanks!
