for lack of a better reference, here's a picture of a Alpina 1:24 scale model on ebay. what i am interested in is the wheels. i recall seeing this style of wheels used extensively in the 80's and 90's racing, particularly in GTP. in racing form i think they were actually covers that went over basketweaves for aerodynamic purposes. what is the closest aftermarket representation of this type of wheel? so far, the only wheel available that i'm aware of that looks somewhat similar is the Ronal 'turbos'. i recall there being some other examples out there- any ideas, links?

Zender had an awesome set. I'd love to have a set of their turbo style wheels. Schmidt also has a nice set and they are 2-piece if I remember correctly. I think Wolfrace, or something like that, was another producer of turbo style wheels. The Wolfraces (if that is the right name) are by far the neatest set I've seen.
My Ronal Turbo's, just for picture reference--

i like the ronals, and from what i've read they might not be so easy to get a hold of soon. are the words cast in relief on the wheel, or are they just decals/painted on? do you have any pictures of them installed?
ok, just saw the Zenders. very nice also. assuming there difficult to source?

Someone on here has the wheels in the 2ed picture. But that's the only ones i've seen. And the first picture i seen on ebay.de and saved it. So yes, i think they are hard to find.
PS, thanks for the heads up on the Alpina model on ebay :D.

all of these are good references, thanks. after some searching it seems the only reasonable alternative is the Ronals- which i could live with if it wasn't for the embossed logo. perhaps a respray could alleviate some of that/
when's the last time anyone has seen a set of Zender turbos for sale in the US? i would really like to build my car around a set of these- impossible?
