Help me choose my new wheels

    UPDATE

Premium materials only are used in the manufacture of Simmons wheels.

Wheel centres are cast or forged in prime aluminium alloy and heat treated to full hard, T6 specification to significantly improve tensile strength and fatigue life.
Rim sections are manufactured from heat treated alloy 6061-T6 and are formed on a CNC spinning lathe, designed and built in our factory to achieve industry-best consistency and accuracy.
Finished wheels are individually tested for dimensional accuracy and trueness in running.
Wherever applicable, Simmons Wheels are machined for hub centred location to ensure that the wheel run true to the hub, avoiding potential balancing problems.

Each Simmons Wheel is identified with its own serial number on the front face of the wheel centre. This number is recorded and enables positive identification of wheels if stolen or when needing repairs.

Ok so i am now starting to finally spend money on my car looking to wheels right now probabley want to purchase them around dec.

First off we have the Simmons FR great wheels and they are a 3 peace wheel can custom make to any size i like about $2000 AUD

    I voted for the Superlights.

The first set doesn't have enough lip for that style, and I wouldn't want to run a magnesium wheel on the street.

Simmons look sweet... Not sure of the implications of using a magnesium alloy for road use tho.

        x2

But, if you look on the pic of the E30, it has a staggered set. Like he said, he can get any size/offset.

        ATS looks better IMO.

Meh, between the two I'd say go for the Simmons. But, for 2000 AUD (1670 USD) you could get a hold of a fairly nice set of BBS'.

Are you sure that the Simmons wheels are 3-piece?

They're both good looking wheels, but I'm not feeling the multi-fit on the ATS wheels and although I have no firsthand experience with magnesium wheels I've read plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest they're not really streetable.

Yeh i like the simmons cos i could set it up for deep dish. The 318is with them in the photo lives in adeliade and recons the feel is very diferant from his 15" Baskets to the 17" simmons.

Im not that great when it comes to wheels but what is bad about magnesium alloy?

If i was going to go BBS the only new styles i like is the LMs and i can stand the CH so considering how much LMs are i dont think so.

Im Shore there three peace because they will do any fitment and i dont think they could unless they were 3pc

                        Cheers

This isn't the best explanation, but I got this from Tire Rack. Google magnesium wheels for more information. I know there also used to be a major flammability issue, but I'm guessing that's been resolved with newer wheels.

Ever since the development of the original mag wheels, which actually used a magnesium alloy to reduce wheel weight on the race cars of the 1950s, lightweight wheels, where they are allowed by the rules, have been used to enhance vehicle performance in almost all forms of racing. And while the generic mag name is still used today, most magnesium alloy wheels are too fragile for daily street use and are very limited in their finish options allowing only painting or polishing (and frequent polishing of magnesium wheels is required due to magnesium's willingness to oxidize). In modern times, the most common uses for magnesium wheels are on Champ Cars, Indy, Formula 1 and GT cars where the race team's continuous monitoring and testing can confirm their strength and durability between events. Mag wheels used on modern race cars are often forged or use some other high tech manufacturing process and special magnesium alloys to reduce the weight while they retain the ability to handle the high loads. Fortunately for the rest of us, the wheel manufacturers have also developed lightweight aluminum alloy wheels that provide the appropriate street durability and numerous finish options while they reduce weight.
