275-15s or 285-18s Fitment and Body mods

Just wondering what you guys with 275-285s are using for wheels and what types of mods did you have to do to accommodate Big Tires? Pics would be great. I am considering these wheels 15x9 with the 275-35-15s.

You would have to run BIG spacers with those. Spacers will be about $150 per end so by the time you add in $300 for spacers you aren't saving that much money. FWIW regardless of what some say you aren't giving up that much performance by going with only a 9" wheel either....

Work Equip 03's are available in a 15x10 and those were around $400/per.

Beyond that the best deals I've found were REAL racing wheel. quoted at $387/each in 15x10 5" backspace.
Kiezer around the same price for the same wheel.....They can build 15x10.5's also Real can't.

Those are your best options. There is Kodiak also but they are close to $600.

Your backspace magic number is 5"

CCW quoted me at 2200 a set for 18x10's. He said he didn't want to do 4x100 wheels but would......

    Real wheels at 15.5lb
    Keizer at 12lbs.

Wow that black 4dr is sexy. 18s just look huge on an e30. I've even thought about turning the front and rear rotors down to 250mm and running Alcon brake calipers then putting a 13x10 with the new 255-40-13 Hoisers. I prolly wouldn't even need body mods. Also to take the advantage of a smaller lighter wheel and tire?

Sounds like an interesting idea. But would bump you to SM from DSP.

My car is getting a modded M50tu swap with a Z3 block and M54 3l internals this winter so I'll already be in SM.

the tie rod end will not clear a 13.

I'd be willing to bet there are ways to make this work....Maybe redrilling/tapering the steering arm and mounting the tie rod facing down...? I don't know...

Those would get the car REALLY low.

FWIW with your projected engine/setup path 'I' would go with 285/30/18's up front and 275/45/16's or 315/35/17's out back.

Yea the VW guys redrill the knuckle and reposition the tie rod for bump steer for ultra low setups. Wow that big huh? I have a cust trying to get rid of some 19x11.5 but tires would be expensive and I'd have to run adapters for BMW-Audi.

As an autox car I wouldn't even consider a 19" size.

The only reason the 18" size is popular is that the 285/30/18 is the only tire that is that wide AND short....Most otherstuff that wide is at least 1" taller if not more.

The 315's would be to put power down. The 275/45/16 is a taller sidewall tire-again for putting power down. And the 16 wouldn't make the car as wide....But both these sizes are to tall for up front hence the 18. Plus the short sidewall in front will improve response

Here is the lowest cost body mod method. Cutoff wheel and a welder, so pretty much 20 bucks in materials and a lot of time. Finish off with rubber fuel tubing and a little RTV. I piece of art only its creator can seem to enjoy. 18x10 285 setup being pictured.

That is because its ugly as fuck. Dont get me wrong, I envy your ability cut the shit out of the side of your car to fit tires and wheels, I wish I could. But I just cant. Someone needs to link some kick ass fender flares that dont require welding on here. I have looked into many set, with little luck. Maybe your idea is not that far off. I just cant see myself doing that to my car. I just cant.
