RS2 vs BFG G Force Sport (I think that's it)

Any thoughts on these? I've read from some that think the RS2s sidewall's are a bit soft, but I suspect they should easily handle the BFG in outright dry traction, important since this will be powered by an OBD-I S52.

I'm really interested in the new Hankook RS3, but there is no info for when it will be available, a call to TireRack indicated they do not know either.

GRM should have an article in june about all the new tires by Andy Hollis. Between those two, the RS2 would be the tire to get. Voshlag found the 195-section Direzza to make for a better autocross tire for their ST class 318i with an open diff. You really can't go wrong with the RS2, though.

^195 would behind a 318 and a 195 behind more than twice as much HP and TQ are two completely different things.

Its looking like the RS3 will be available in 225/45/15, not 225/50/15, way too small.

Argh, it's really looking like the RS2 (which is behind the times now as far as ST class tires) or running the RA1 as a street tire. Which I'm leaning toward, since I don't want to try to stuff a 225/50/16 under the car and lose the weight advantage of the 15" wheels.

The Enkei RPF1 is 9.9 lbs, 10mm spacer and it should fit perfect with a 225/50/15

I have 205/50 front and 225/50 15 TIs's on my 325i. The rears rub rear bad with a mildly rolled fenders.

No, not yet. Have to stick with current set of GCs for now. The 24v swap is way over budget and getting the rest of the funds together is taking a bit longer than I'd like!

My 225/50 RS2's have plenty of traction for the S52. If I rev it out in first and shift hard into second I barely get a bark from the tires. They do have a bit of flex in the sidewalls, but I dont mind them being a little bit compliant because it is a dual purpose car.

That's good to know. I haven't driven on any ST class tires, last time I had a street car with sticky tires was 10 years ago. I've only driven the E30 on Kumho SPTs and Nexen N3000s.

So I'm sure even the though the RS2 isn't at the top of the class anymore, I'm sure it would still be more grip than anything I've been on recently.

The thought of running RA1's, just won't seem to go away though.....

Ewww. Haha, the RS2's will be night and day compared to those.

Mmmm get a spare set of wheels for those (you've probably already got a set..). Those tires are awesome, but I wouldnt run them on the street. Hard to kill them at the track. They are old and hard before they run out of tread!

That's kinda what I was thinking about the RS2, and it doesn't seem as though the RS3 is going to come out in 225/50 since they are releasing a 225/45.

Unfortunately I don't have a set of spare wheels.

I'd love to at some point in the future, but not in the budget with the swap going on!

Im running the gforce sports over the RS2's simply due to tread wear, the RS2's would wear out too fast on a daily. the sports work good for me although they dont really have to put up with much an a M10 car.

225/45/15? Really... I've been wanting that size for a good while now.

A friend just mentioned tonight that the RS2's arent long for this world.. that's unfortunate. We were talking 5-lug conversions and two guys were telling me to use the E36 M3 stuff. I told them I have the E30 M3 stuff because I want to run 15" and 16" wheels because of the tire sizes availible (mostly the different OD's). They both made me face the facts by pointing out that all of the good 15" tires are slowly dying out, and the 16"s will likely follow soon.

I'm bummed, but they are right..

                        I know, that's initially why I bought 17s.

I figure I'll go ahead and get a set of RS2s, they should last me until next year anyway, and buy some 15s. Then later put some R-Comps and maybe find a different route for street wheels/tires.

They have 225/45R15 and 225/50R15 RS-2s, so why wouldn't they have the same sizes for the RS-3s? Unless the 50 profile tires weren't good sellers?

Oh really, I hadn't even checked to see on the 45s.

I sent an email to Gruppe-S who is claiming they will have the RS3s first and said they had no other sizing info then what I've seen them post up on a few forums.

I guess I'll go ahead and try to wait it out a bit longer before I make a decision on which direction to go with tires.
