How much more difficult to maintain are they then say...an M30?

Not much... everything is about the same amount of work but when it comes to valve adjustments, mechanical and vacuum balancing of throttles and adjusting individual CO on the exhaust side require much more effort and a couple more special tools. For the half dozen or so hours of incremental maintenance every 9 to 12 months, the drive more than makes up for it.

If you do, be prepared to shell out some extra scratch if engine records are poor. Timimg chain guides are an issue on higher mileage S38's

They say S38 mechanics show the earmarks of brain surgeons.
