Ashleys e28 M535I Build

Hey, So I Thought about this,so i am gonna start a Build thread on my Euro M535i.


This is my 1985 M535I, Its an original California car imported by Hardy & beck. I have the Original Blue plates.The car was found on Craigslist in sept of 2008,and was sold for $1500. The car had years of Fees as the owner just stopped driving it one day. After the car was updated,and some Things were fixed. The owner at that time Thought it was worth $6k. Well it didnt sell. Infact it was traded for a S38 M5 with High mileage. A few months later it was placed for sale,and i was able to get it on payment plan.

I payed $3000 plus $520 for shipping it from The bay area to Phoenix.
I recived the car in Sept of 2011.

When i received the car,It was not as described. It was still a good car,But some things were not mentioned to me. Perfect reason to never buy a car un seen. The guy i got it from whom i am still friends with,is a Nice guy a VERY nice guy. Just isnt OCD like me.

Within 48 hours of ownership I did what i could with the limited funds i had. My job had just given my 2 weeks,as they was closing.

That had included Brake flush,Fuel system clean up,balance tires,Battery protection,and a inspection.

I was working in a shop and had previous BMW experience in shop and ownership so this stuff was eazy no biggie,But needed as the car came to me with no history on service other then what the guy who wanted $6k for it.

Right before i left i was able to snag 4 GOOD nearly new 205 55 16 exaltos as the owners wanted matching tires.

In oct i traded a M tech wheel i had from a previous E28 i had owned for a set of MSW 16X7.5 wheels that had been spray painted. I took them to discount tire,and had them mounted up,to the tires i had got from when i was employed.


During the next 3 months Very little would be done to the car as i had no Yob.

Around Jan of 2012 I had bought a Parts lot of E28 Parts from a older friend who had gotten out of the E28 lifestyle a few years back. That had allowed me to get a

Cluster "replace Euro as the SI Board was dead"
OBC "OBC didnt work"
Replace fuel line new
Sand some Misc Rust and touch up with 045 Paint.


In Feb i had gotten some money,so i went and did the tuneup stuff
Cap/rotor,fuel filter,air filter,oil change. And new Plug wires.

I had also thrown in New Plugs The car takes W8DC these plugs ARE NLA and hard to find,i have about 20 of these in my possession.

I also added a Euro E24 wiper arm,to add some cool to it.


In march i had received a set of Bilsteien's/Vogland springs for a trade for stock eta springs/shocks. Yep guy hated it Solid.

At that time i had replaced the HD's my car came with with Sports,and had added the Voglands on my car.

During that month i replaced the CTS,And added a killer alpine deck.
I also traded some BBS RS for some IE SWAYBARS. That deal allowed me to buy
IE Headers/and exhaust.

In April I was shopping for some Licensee plates for my Bathroom.
"My bathroom walls are License plates"

So i find a Unmolested 88 German old style Plate with a Bracket for $35

I also called BMW,and order the bracket to hold the First aid kit in the trunk.
I replaced all that old stuff in it,with new Updated stuff encase i ever see a wreck.

A few days later I Traded the stupid Large case S307 for a Medium S346 Diff.
I replaced the Mount with a Correct M535I one. then Replaced Misc interior screws and stuff.

In May I finally find a shop who understands my exhaust needs and my budget.
a Few days later i have installed Ireland exhaust headers,custom Straight pipe 2'' and a beautiful sounding exhaust.
New exhaust manifold gaskets,and Nut studs and bolts were added. "I HATE USED EXHAUST shit"

I live in a area were Emissions are not required so :)

To finish the month off I buy a new alternator from autozone "bosch case" $65 ,and install a new Ground strap while im there.
Normally i avoid autozone for anything but lifetime warranty and bosch case won me over.

I<3 the M60 so Thats been on my mind,as well.

But ive also been told to keep this car stock.

The only thing i can say for sure is it will be a Daily driver. Oh ya Valentine ONE!

It's an awesome car for stock, and daily driving.

I had traded a Set of Style 9's,for Style 32's.

The 32's Were my favorite wheel next to the RS. When i put them on, I was crushed because they weight more then a SD45T-2. I drove down to tucson with them and it really killed my Gas and the power of the car so I Traded them back. I found some 16X7 RS and got a good deal on them,and was also allowed to work them on credit. :)


on my bday i took my cluster apart and painted my needles pink.
"They look red" :puppy::puppy: I WANTED PINK! :razz:

Removed the Voglands and the stock springs back on.

I then threw away the lame Wood shifter,and Bought a Motorsport one. Stock E28 knobs are soooo nice!
