This should be fun! Can't wait to get the head off and check out the head and block. I'm thinking at the very least a complete reseal and I will need head bolts. Picked all this up from a friend that has worked on BMW's for 25 years. He was going to put this in his E34 but he has since gotten an E39 540i. All parts came from cars he worked on. I have a 92 525i/5.
So here's what I've got
S52-motor came out of an M3 with 200k miles. Car was meticulously maintained. Until his wife drove it. Radiator busted and was ran hot. Replaced radiator and never ran hot again. But, did start using some oil and had a tapping noise. I'll know more once the head comes off. Which the valve train is very clean. If nothing else I can swap cams and vanos to my head. I will need an E34 vanos non-EWS wiring harness.
LSD-it's fried, ring and pinion are missing a couple of gears. He seems to think I might be able to use the LSD part for my diff.
M3 transmission-nothing really wrong with it. Customer ran Royal Purple in it and swore he heard a noise. My friend never heard it. Came from same car as LSD. May or may not end up using this. Depends if it will fit using my driveshaft.
Headers-not sure which BMW but he say's a lot of people use them to upgrade from manifolds. Will need to weld O2 bungs closed.
Red 413-from a vanos non-EWS 5 series automatic. Thinking I may need a chip since mine is 5 speed? Maybe not.
