    Should I bring this home?

Hey R3v. Last night my dad sent me pictures of his best friends old 528e. Not sure what year. I currently own a 91 325is atm. He said I could bring it back to my house for FREE and do whatever with it. I went to check it out today, and it has 159,xxx miles, crack free dash, and a tan interior. Oh and it's also an automatic. The car hasn't been driven and years and has some moss on it since it was parked in the woods near a lake. I poured some water on a couple sections and the paint still shines and the clear coat is mint wtf? Maybe could use a polish. There's one little section that's chipped and a dent on the roof but looks removable. How reliable are these cars? It's definatly an early model hence the metal bumpers. If I do decide to bring it home, I'd like to get it running and then use it as a winter beater/driver. I'd probably take it up north to ski too. Worth bringing home and try to fix? Is the auto tranny reliable? I'd love to throw a ski rack, snow tires, and coat the bottom. There is a sticker on the car that says it's been previously undercoated. For sitting in the woods for probably 5+ years the paint is amazing without clear coat peeling and sh!t. No rust on the outside and looks good under too. Thanks!

I mean, is it worth blowing money into this car for it to be a reliable winter driver?

Get it home, give it a good look through, drain and change the gas, crank that bitch over.

Then worry about dropping $$ into it.

All American ones did. Euro ones were different.

The auto tranny is the weak link. The tranny tends to last for 140-250,000 miles. A manual swap tends to go for 650-900. I loved my 82 and 86 528e but rust and accidents took them away.

The timing belt as you know should be replaced every 6 years or 60,000 miles.

I do have a good m20b25 from a e34 if you are looking for a little more power.

Didn't you just ask this on the r3v FB page? You need even more people to tell you what to do? Just take the thing home and bring it back to life already. You haven't even spent any time to powerwash and clean it. Or to check for rust or what parts need to be replaced.
