    1984 318i Coolant Overflow Tank

Hi, I have a 1984 318i with an m10b18 engine and I noticed the hose for the overflow tank on my radiator is missing and I got a hose for it but I’m not sure where the hose attaches to as I don’t see any overflow tank on my car. I couldn’t find any information about where it goes either so I’m hoping someone on here can help me out!

    Thanks!

As you mention, there is no expansion tank on an M10 318i.

That missing hose just attaches at the spot below the cap and then runs along the top of the radiator and then down the side of the radiator. It passes through the two small plastic hoops, one at the top tank and one at the bottom tank (where you have a zip tie for the shroud) before terminating about 3 inches below the radiator. It is just an open hose to direct any liquid/vapor to the ground if the pressure relief on the cap lifts.

      Hose is part number: 17 11 1 150 232

Thank you that helps a lot! I’ve never worked on a car without one before I never thought it wouldn’t have one.
