Bad Fuel line Coming off of Tank

Got a 1991 318is with a bad fuel line coming off of the tank to the fuel filter. Obviously I can't get to the top of the line where it attaches to the tank. Is it possible to drop the tank enough without removing muffler and driveshaft just to get access to replace the bad line or do I got to get the driveshaft and muffler out of the way to drop the tank down for access? Thanks in advance.

There is just enough space to drop the tank a bit and replace the line. It's not super fun, and if the clamp is in the wrong position to access the screw you'll have to cut it off or drop the tank out.

You can also work the problem from above through the access hole a bit if needed.

Thanks for the good advice on the access hole. I forgot about that. But yeah, if the clamp is on in a bad position that can be a royal pain. But you can drip the tank with driveshaft and muffler in? What do you get, about 4-6 inches? Thanks

It wasn't much IIRC, maybe two inches, just barely enough to get a tool in. I think the hardest part for me was tightening the new clamp.

I also did the work on a lift, so my angle of attack was about perfect.

I cut the end of my line and used a connector fitting to a new one going to the filter since the part leading up to the tank was still good. No issues with fuel pressure or anything else.

It's just asking for a failure in a few years. By the time a soft line is bad at a fitting the rest of the line isn't far behind.

Yuppers... I got a shit load of work to do underneath so I'll get in there and make sure the fuel line is solid all the way through. I have to replace the brake lines anyway, decided to go with the ChaseBay setup. Hopefully that will help clean up the lines underneath too.
