    Odometer Gears...

Are there any cheaper odometer gears other than from odometergears.com

I and my girlfriend need the odometer gears and I wasn't sure if someone actually made a cheaper one or not.

Not that I have found. I just did mine and the quality of the gears was great! Bear in mind when you replace them the small gear provided requires that one remove the brass bushing that is on the shaft. It press fits over just the shaft and not the bushing and shaft.

Here is what my gears looked like when I pulled them.

Right now, I only have the small gear that is broken.

Might as well do them all while you are in there.

From what I gather, the smallest gear is the only one that breaks. If you're trying to save money, I say you just replace that one gear instead of replacing all of them.

I've had excellent luck with odometergears.com in VA though.

Bear in mind that the guy who runs odometer gears.com makes the gears out of his basement, when considering the price.

The small gear was fine in mine; it was the two reduction gears that were bad. I think there are some on Ebay or Bavauto or something that are more like $30, but I can't remember. Its been a month since I had to look for them.

Yea, the shop I used to work at does a lot of business with him. He also makes gears for E36 seats and a couple of other little stuff. The guy is pretty cool to talk to. Definitely knows that he is in a small niche market. He set up the business on the side and used to, couple years ago, do most of his parts making in his spare time.

I've heard of a guy in Spain making them for $25 plus shipping...
Just heard it mentioned on several BMW forums...

mafoose, could you find out? I would love to have a working odometer. I just changed the timing belt in my girlfriends, and it's about time that it needs to be tracked.
