    CoPart is a ripoff

I saw a nice e30 with a great cardinal red interior I would love to have: https://www.copart.com/lot/63805742/...atic-tx-dallas

At this point the auction was $1400, not bad for a nice, rare interior. But after CoPart's fees, the price would be over $2100 (not including the broker fee and membership sign up fee) based on this site: https://www.ebayfeescalculator.com/u...rt-calculator/

How can anyone afford this? The fees are nuts! One could argue that you can part it out for more, but it's a lot of your time invested. Either way, the fees are 1/3 of the auction. For those unaware, watch out.

Are the fees based on percent of sale price or flat fee. In your case it would be 50%!

I've been on the hunt for about a year now and yeah, these places are are a pain to deal with. As you mentioned the fees really add up, especially if you are comparing them to a car that you may only pay ~$1000 for.

Here is the IAA price structure and it's much the same as Copart IIRC with half a dozen other fees added on there: https://www.iaai.com/marketing/stand...sed-buyer-fees

The viewing times at these places are extremely restrictive too. A bunch of weird and different bidding formats, bid times, etc... My experience has been horrible and seems like it could be handled in a much more straight forward manner. It would be nice if you could just work directly with an owner instead of all these middle men, but that's a pipe dream.

They are based on the price and increase as it goes up.
