Havent heard of atiwe so cannot vouch for their quality but I guess the gap will be dependant on how much offset the boss kit has. If its relatively flat on the back then it will have that gap youve posted. I would lay your factory steering wheel flat and measure off the mounting face inside to the back of the wheel to the back of the hub and do the same on your boss kit, subtract the two numbers and that will give you your gap difference if correctly mounted. The OE wheels run minimal gap.
You could probably even just run a straight edge over the back of the oe wheel and boss hub to gauge the gap diff when mounted . If ones got a larger gap than the other theres your culpritBoris - 89 E30 325i

After digging a few more, I found out that I need to remove the white lock pin (this was not stated anywhere) and that did the trick.
