looking for some input on this e30's value

    Another 'what's she worth?' post.

    89 325is 156k on the chassis 20k on motor

motor M20B25 fresh rebuild, cam, intake, chip, exhaust
    new paint
    "racing" seats
    aftermarket wheel
    cracked dash
a/c needs recharging (sugarcoated way of saying A/C is probably broken)
    needs front rotors
    lowered, suspension unknown.

he can't provide any details on the motor, "like that when he bought it" so i'll basically assume nothing special, otherwise he'd know.

    So what say ye?

    ~1800-3000

Depends on how well you haggle.

Who knows what it's worth but take off $20 for the air filter and bracket.

I love the recharge trick. it looks like all budget hopup stuff, nothing special.

clean body and paint is always a 2k car inless its shitted, which this one is not especially with the rebuilt motor.

yeah, he's asking 6. I was counting on somewhere around 4, but you guys seem to think a little lower than that.

I really don't see how I can haggle with this guy if I walk in offering 50% of his asking price. Any hope here? He doesn't really seem like too much of a BMW nut, can't tell me much about the motor rebuild and the rest of the stuff so I get the feeling he's not really in tune with what the e30 market looks like.

Frustrating that he's asking so much. I finally found an iS local in a color that I like, in decent shape and his price is through the roof.

I'm checking it out tomorrow afternoon.

It is possible that e30s will be worth a handfull in the near future (like the e10s shot up in price in the '90s) but the whole market is soft right now.

I doubt he'll get more that 4k (if that).

6k is very high for that car.

cant tell how the paint is from pic's.

i would offer 3500 max and def get it looked at. There could be tons of surprises otherwise. If he wont budge i would walk away.

PM me if you need someone to give it professional look or have any questions...

Since he has no documentation at all for the motor and it looks otherwise pretty unmolested 6K is a wet dream on his part, I wouldn't pay more than 2800 for that thing.

pulled the carfax/autocheck, two wrecks. one frontal with object w/ extensive damage, one rear with another motor vehicle w/ moderate damage.

sigh. looks like another lost cause. I'm still going to meet him. I'll feel it out for his bottom dollar, but have the feeling I'm going to walk away regardless. If I were him I'd tell me to go F myself if someone offered me $2k on a $6k asking price, regardless of how absurd the price may be.

                  Thanks for your help,
                  Paul

If he's asking $6000 usd for a car which has been in two accidents I think he's out to lunch.

Fresh engine is nice but what what was done to the new engine? it could be just a head rebuild with the rest left as is . Lowered springs with no mention of upgraded shocks= blown oe shocks in no time flat.

What about the suspension bushings etc. the parts aren't that much money but having it done buy a shop costs a bit,

You never know what shape the syncro's are in in the the tranny, same for the guibo, csb, hell the lsd in the diff could be loud as hell too you never know without a good testdrive.

Its always better to walk away from a car that you're unsure of. It took me 3 months of searching before I found a clean, 98% rust free car.

My opinion is to focus on finding a E30 with the least amount of rust possible. Drive train is easier to come by than a clean body.

odometer discrepancy too, chassis has at least 201k on it as of 2004. This thing is a can of friggin worms.

So glad I already rented the stupid uhaul. Grrr.

I paid $4k for a low mileage '88, BMP RS-1, Ground Control coilovers with control arm bearings, Eibach sways, Dinan catback and Dinan chip, Zimmerman X-drilled rotors, etc.

The car you are describing is $2500ish, maybe.
