I've got both spoilers and I'll say that the E28 spoiler does look better. I'd donate mine to the cause (E28 spoilers arent nearly as valuable as the M-tech 1) but the nuts for the insert are beyond seized on mine...

I like the look of the E28 one more, but agree with what has been said about e30 mounting stud pattern.

The problem is that the E28 spoilers generally fetch a lot less $$ than E30 ones, due to the lack of supply, so I'm not sure if you would be able to make reproductions that are cost-effective considering that you can pick up a clean E28 one for around $150, and an E30 one in the same condition can fetch north of $300.

I would take a 5 series one if done right.

it may be possible to mold in the cock n balls logo on the bottom
i thought mtech 1 spoilers are NLA.

you already have a rubber C&B, so it's easy to mold.

i do have a brand new mtech 1 in my attic waiting for the right silver 4 door ;)

            I see, that's a worthy point.

I guess the selling point here would be having an e28 spoiler with e30 mounting points so you don't need to drill out your trunk...ontop of getting a brand new part.

Maybe that's not enough to make the decision to reproduce e28 versions? What do you guys think?

e28 versions with e30 mounting points vs. e30 versions

I'm attempting to calculate price now. If anyone could take dimensions for me that would help.

Hmm....I can't tell by the pictures, (need a side view)but if the e28 spoiler hangs back further, it might be difficult mount it correctly with the e30 mounting points / might be hard to keep it flush to the trunk lid on the top, and back. Might be gaps between spoiler and trunk lid?

If ill fitment of the e28 to the e30 trunk is the case, this is something I can take care of by modifying the original specimen being used to create the mold.

I hand make models as a part of my profession and have worked auto body in the past so I'm very capable.

Well, good deal then. I do like the e28 look better and would be down for a good fitting one at some point.

The e28 one actually fits well because it's made primarily of rubber, so it bends - however, you have to drill additional holes to get it bolted down on the very edges of the trunk, as the trunk's surface is concave and causes the ends of the e28 spoiler to not sit flush on the rear quarter overhangs unless it is bolted down right at the very edges of the e30 trunk.

I like the e28 version's overhangs and ridged back portion more than the e30's relative plainness.

I would consider a E28 version with an E30 bolt pattern

I won't be doing anything in fiberglass.

My goal would be to get the fitment just right without having to make additional mounting holes outside the 3series ones.
